Bill Brattons Transformative Effect on NYPD Tactics with the Use of the CompStat System
This paper shall examine William J. Bratton, one-time police commissioner of the New York City police department and the man who instituted a zero tolerance approach to crime alongside a new CompStat statistical crime-tracking program. The paper argues that the systems combined with BrattonÂ’s methods are ultimately effective in dramatic reductions in crime; however, there are also some indications that such a pairing has resulted in higher incidences of aggressive police behavior.
