Deep Ecology and Shallow Ecology: An Analysis of Distinction
This three page undergraduate papers examines the distinction between Deep Ecology and Shallow Ecology. The author notes that Arne Naess has predicated the philosophy of Deep Ecology based upon a clear distinction between Deep Ecology and “shallow ecology.” Although this distinction may seem only semantic to some, it involves much more than semantics. Through his work and writings, Naess defined the distinction clearly and identified it as the cusp of a major shift in the Western cultural paradigm, involving a transition through which the next major phase of human evolution is moving.
