Book Review: An Analysis of Royal Survivor: A Life of Charles II by Stephen Coote
This paper will analyze Stephen Coote’s “Royal Survivor: A Life of Charles II”. Coote uses secondary historical sources and their perspectives to make judgments on the hearsay of Charles II life, and the makes a greater focus on his sexual and pomp-filled life. Although Charles lived in poverty while in exile, surely Coote could not resist placing speculative histrionics on Charles’s wealth and vainglory behaviors to keep his reader’s attention. In this manner, we have a biography that does not use primary sources, and is based on the research of other historians.
