In this paper, we will examine what is great about the song “Hound Dog”. This song represents, in many ways the malleability of a rock and roll song, in that, not only can different performers have different interpretations of it, but also, the song can morph into something almost completely different from the original and still be called the same thing. Though, this is an interesting issue, which raises and important question that we will focus our essay on: Is the Elvis recording of Hound Dog the same song, or same art object, as Big Mama Thornton's recording?
