For many years now the question of whether or not to legalize certain illicit drugs has circulated through medical and legal channels. On one level, many law enforcement personnel believe that it would free up money and men to fight other crimes. However, when thirty DEA agents stormed a medical facility in Santa Cruz, California to confiscate legal marijuana it sent quite a different message (Kreit, p.1787). On another hand, medical practitioners have called for the legalization of certain drugs at least for medical purposes if for nothing else. Marijuana has long been on that list and now research is on the side on legalization. Marijuana has been proven to help with pain relief, nausea relief, and anorexia associated with patients suffering from cancer or AIDS.
