One of the continuing and continually appealing dreams that humans have is to be able to colonize space. Such dreams represent the best of humanity – the ability to envision new lives and the courage and intelligence to make those visions reality – as well as a great deal of what is worst about humanity. After all, many of the most vibrant visions of space colonization have been prompted by fears that earth will become too polluted by human activities or too devastated by war to be inhabitable and like in some other place will be the only way in which the human race will be able to survive
